Machine Operator
The Machine Operator is responsible for operating industrial manufacturing equipment used in the production plant. This role involves setting up machines, monitoring production processes, ensuring product quality, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
Schedules that we see open:
1st, 2nd and 3rd shift – Night shift is the most common (some are 2-2-3 schedules which require working every other weekend)
Pay Rates:
$17-$19/hour
Location:
Newberry, SC – Prosperity, SC area
Duties & Responsibilities:
Machine Operation
- Operate wire drawing, stranding, coating, spooling, or packaging machinery.
- Start, stop, adjust, and monitor production machines during operation.
- Load raw materials such as steel wire rods and coils into machinery.
- Monitor gauges, control panels, and production systems for proper operation.
- Adjust machine settings including speed, tension, alignment, and temperature as needed.
Production & Quality Control
- Inspect finished wire products for quality, dimensions, and defects.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Ensure products meet customer and engineering specifications.
- Identify production issues and report quality concerns immediately.
- Maintain production output goals and minimize material waste.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and operational issues.
- Perform routine machine cleaning and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Assist maintenance technicians during equipment repairs and changeovers.
- Replace worn tooling, guides, rollers, and other machine components as necessary.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
- Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures when servicing equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete production reports, quality logs, and downtime records.
- Communicate equipment issues and production concerns to supervisors and team members.
- Work closely with maintenance, quality, and warehouse personnel to support production flow.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
Preferred
- Previous machine operator or manufacturing experience.
- Experience in steel, wire, automotive, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience/certification.
- Experience using measuring instruments and reading production specifications.
- Basic computer skills for production tracking systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to work in high-temperature, noisy industrial environments.
- Ability to safely work around moving mechanical equipment
